The firm
Built by practitioners who have done the work.
Depth & Bearing is a technology consulting practice built on deep senior expertise. Direct access to practitioners who have done this work — no account managers, no handoffs.
The name
Know your position. Set your course.
Depth and bearing are navigation terms. Depth is how well you understand where you actually are — not where you think you are. Bearing is the direction you commit to once you have that clarity.
Most technology engagements fail at the depth stage. A vendor gets selected, a framework gets applied, a roadmap gets built — before anyone has properly understood the problem. The name is a reminder of the order things should happen in.
Background
Practitioner first. Consultant second.
Eko Adetolani is a founding principal at Depth & Bearing — a product and technology leader with a software engineering background. Before consulting, that meant building: a venture-backed startup that reached YCombinator finals, payment products scaled to millions of users, and AI systems deployed inside some of the world's largest organisations.
That work has spanned fintech, SaaS, government, logistics, and consumer technology. It has included early-stage products and enterprise platforms. In each case the approach has been the same: understand the actual problem first, then decide what to build.
Academic grounding comes from a BSc in Computer Science and a postgraduate diploma in Global Business from Oxford University's Saïd Business School.

Who this is for
We're not the right fit for everyone.
We work best with leadership teams that want direct access to senior expertise — not a project managed through layers. Typically that means mid-market businesses or scaling companies facing a technology decision with real consequences.
If you need a team of twenty to deploy across multiple workstreams, we can point you toward firms better built for that.
If you want one firm that will tell you the truth, stay involved throughout, and be accountable for the quality of the thinking — that's exactly what we are.
